10 Things That Can Make Entrepreneurs Happy

A wise person has submitted that "Life is too short to be lived in a boring and joyless form." I totally agree. Probably more than other people, entrepreneurs need a bigger dose of happiness because of the tedious nature of the process in creating wealth and employment for their societies.

Although happiness is by choice, some conditions, to my mind would create germane atmosphere necessary for enterprise creators and managers to be happy and by extension, function maximally.  They are listed below in no particular order:

1.      Philanthropy

Every entrepreneur at whatever level should commit part of their profit or other resources, such as time to humanitarian endeavours. This is what I term, Being good for nothing, that is doing good without expecting any material or tangible rewards.

One of the highest callings of business owners as wealth creators is to help mankind redistribute riches, especially to the needy. Nothing makes a man happier than seeing the joy on the face o whose burden you have taken away.

2.      Competent and motivated staff

Recruiting and retaining competent, well motivated staff does not have parallel if a business owner desires peace o mind cum happiness in his activities. They will take the stress off you to a large extent, affording you more time for strategic thinking. This will subsequently lead to more success and more success will open doors to more happiness.

On the other hand, incompetent and uninspired employees take away your joy; you are constantly left in a frenzied state and your joy is eroded.

3.      Daily routine

Entrepreneurship is not an easy undertaking. The business owner is constantly put in circumstances that pull at him from and towards different directions. Nothing gives an entrepreneur more sense of stability than established routines.

Simple routines like time to wake up, daily affirmations, study time, exercise and time to hit the office or strategy sessions could be invaluable. This system is like an anchor to help you remain in charge, and your happiness may well depend on it.

4.      Cash flow

Business operators need sustainable cash flow if they must avoid constant anxiety. You should therefore, devise a means to have and maintain regular cash flow. An entrepreneur with regular cash flow problem would find it quite challenging to be happy on a constant because cash flow is the blood of the enterprise.

Business owners should learn to delay gratification and maintain financial discipline in order to boost cash flow as well as a vital condition for their felicity.

5.      Business growth

Lack of growth in business or in any field of human endeavour is nothing to be celebrated. To expose themselves more to opportunities for joy, entrepreneurs must be disciplined enough to give their outfits the necessary push or the hard work to escape stagnancy and stimulate growth.

Business growth is not cheap and is definitely not served ala carte but the attainment of it confers indescribable joy.

6.      Recreation

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy; that saying was invented for a reason. Serious entrepreneurs work hard and should therefore, play hard to equilibrate things. Identify and undertake actions that divert you away from hyper stress; those one that amuse or stimulate you. Such include sports, music, holidays, clubbing, cinema, or indeed any activity that make you happy.

Indulge moderately in recreation, and your body and business balance sheet would soon show appreciation to you.

7.      Motivation
To maintain a healthy joy balance, entrepreneurs need to internalise motivation. A lot of external influences are mostly variables you cannot control but you can chose to make lemonades even when you are given lemons.

You should learn to deliberately and actively inspire yourself to rise above limitations or challenges around you at all times. You must dwell on positive essence in all things, practise confidence building affirmations and inspire yourself with good materials such as books, tapes and seminars at regular intervals.

8.      Mentors
Not many things are actually new under the earth. Whatever success or challenge you are experiencing has been gone through by someone even in bigger dimension. Having mentors for business managers may translate to the difference between failure and success.

To promote your rest of mind and happiness, you may wish to get yourself mentors if you have not already. A mentor is essentially an accomplished and trusted guide or advisor in areas of interests to you.

9.      Positive business culture

The culture in place in your organisation is also paramount to determine the level of happiness of entrepreneurs. By culture, I mean the things you do and the way you do them. It also includes the values and written or unwritten rules of engagement in your place.

The more positivism and happiness your business culture generates in your public –employees, customers or suppliers, the happier you are.

10.  Integrity
To my mind, lack of integrity is a reproach. It will definitely catch up with any entrepreneur, just a matter of time.

Character is the hallmark of every genuinely happy business person. Do the right thing; stay on your toes and maintain discipline. You would then be happy and rejoice in your achievements when they come.
